Jede Spende hilft!

Crowdfunding for LGBTIQ in Turkey and North Kurdistan

An attack on some of us is an attack on all of us!

In Turkey and North Kurdistan, Turkish authorities launched an offensive of unprecedented scale against LGBTI+ people in mid-September. Homes were raided and doors broken down; our friends were intimidated and criminalized. Queer people in Turkey and North Kurdistan are living with the uncertainty of not knowing who will be targeted next. Hundreds of our friends are in detention, digital platforms are being blocked, and equipment has been confiscated. Even the funding of queer organizations is being criminalized.

Around the 46th anniversary of the military coup, the websites and social media accounts of numerous organizations and activists were seized in mid-September. In Istanbul, the premises of organizations providing vital support to people living with HIV were also raided. All of this is happening under the pretext of “protecting families.” The operation targets LGBTI+ people, their organizations, allies, and democratic civil society. Accusations such as “obscenity,” prostitution, drugs, or violations of morality, as well as allegations of organized crime, are being used to criminalize queer organizing, fundraising, and visibility.

The bodies, identities, relationships, and organizing of queer people are not a crime!

Queer Kurds are particularly affected, facing multiple forms of repression. In Turkey, they experience both persecution and criminalization as Kurdish people and anti-queer repression targeting their identities, organizing, and political structures. Queer Kurdish organizations therefore stand at the intersection of different forms of state and social oppression.

This is why we are calling for practical solidarity with Sara Kolektîf – a queer Kurdish organization working under these conditions to defend the rights and safety of queer people. Every donation strengthens their work and queer Kurdish organizing against repression, anti-queer violence, and state persecution.

Every donation helps!

What your donation makes possible:

  • Legal support for people in detention
  • Living expenses for people facing persecution and displacement
  • Secure infrastructure and digital security
  • Emergency funds for urgent situations
