In southern Chad, agriculture is the backbone of rural life, yet many families face persistent challenges that threaten their livelihoods. Traditional farming and livestock practices, combined with limited access to modern knowledge, have resulted in low productivity and ongoing food insecurity. As young people leave their villages in search of better opportunities, rural communities are left with fewer resources and increasing poverty. The degradation of natural resources and the impacts of climate change only add to these difficulties, making it harder for families to thrive.
Recognising these urgent needs, Allafi and his team launched the agroecological farm and school project "Ferme Espoir" ("Farm of Hope") to empower local farmers and livestock breeders. This initiative provides hands-on training in sustainable agricultural techniques, helping producers increase their yields while protecting the environment. By creating new rural jobs and offering innovative education, the team is combatting rural exodus and fostering economic self-sufficiency within the community. The farm school is already serving as a hub for knowledge-sharing, environmental stewardship, and hope for a brighter future.
The impact we bring:
· Improved agricultural yields and increased producers’ incomes
· Creation of direct and indirect jobs
· Reduction of poverty and promotion of local economic development
· Preservation of natural resources and adaptation to climate change
