Kalyani Gunja, a Master's student in Environmental and Resource Management at BTU Cottbus, Germany, has recently been diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL), a serious form of blood cancer.
She is currently undergoing intensive treatment at the Medizinische UniversitΓ€t Lausitz β Carl Thiem in Cottbus, under the care of the Hematology & Oncology department. Her doctors have confirmed that she will need a stem cell transplant, and the search for a matching donor is already underway. Her own brother is being evaluated as a potential match and will need to travel to Germany for testing and possible donation.
This journey is expected to take up to 2 years of continuous treatment. While her medical care is covered by her health insurance in Germany, Kalyani will be unable to work or support herself financially during this time. Her mother is traveling from India to be by her side in Cottbus and care for her throughout the treatment β meaning the family will need to cover daily living expenses, accommodation, travel, and visa costs, all without any income during this period.
Despite everything, Kalyani hopes to continue and complete her Master's degree alongside her treatment β holding on to her goals even in the hardest of times.
We're reaching out to help ease this financial burden, so Kalyani and her family can focus on her recovery without the added stress of covering basic living costs. Every contribution β big or small β will make a real difference for her and her family during this journey.
