Dear friends,

The images and stories coming out of the country have been heartbreaking. The flooding and landslides have affected communities across Nepal, with people losing homes, livelihoods, and, most painfully, loved ones. And while it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by something happening so far away, many of us have a connection to Nepal — through our friends, our communities, our food, our culture, our work, or simply because we care deeply about what happens to people there.

So few of us decided we wanted to do something to help.

We’re starting this small, community-led fundraiser with a goal of €2,000. It’s not going to solve the enormous challenges facing Nepal right now. But it can help support organizations that are responding directly to the emergency and getting resources to people who need them.

And maybe that’s enough of a place to start.

Our hope is to bring together 50 people — friends, neighbors, colleagues, and people in our wider networks — who each give what they can. €10, €20, €50, €100. There’s no right amount. What matters is that we do something together.

We’re also going to spend some time learning about the organizations responding on the ground and deciding collectively where the funds can be most useful. We want to be thoughtful about where this money goes.

This fundraiser is intentionally short. We’ll raise as much as we can over the next week, and then we’ll close it and send the money to the organizations we’ve identified.
