Am 24. Februar ist der verheerende Zyklon „Freddy“ in Mosambik auf Land getroffen und hat die Region Inhambane stark verwüstet. Die ohnehin dramatische Lage nach dem Zyklon wurde durch nachfolgende Sturmfluten, starke sinnflutartige Regenfälle, anhaltende Wirbelstürme und Überschwemmungen verschärft. Und damit einhergehend der Zusammenbruch der Mobilfunknetze.

Das Ausmaß der Verwüstung und die Not der Menschen vor Ort ist groß. Uns erreichen nach Tagen etliche Berichte von Einheimischen, die obdachlos geworden sind und vor einer gewaltigen Aufgabe stehen ihre verwüstete Heimatregion wieder bewohnbar zu machen: entwurzelte Bäume, abgerissene Dächer, überschwemmte Häuser/ teils vollständig zerstörte Häuser, zerstörte Schulen, überflutete Ackerflächen und lahmgelegte Mobilfunknetze. Die lokale Bevölkerung benötigt dringend Hilfe, um ihre Häuser wieder aufzubauen sowie Grundnahrungsmittel!

Wir selbst - Tanja und Jesper - haben in dieser Region ein Jahr gewohnt und kennen viele der Einheimischen, die nun obdachlos geworden sind. Wir werden demnächst selbst vor Ort sein und möchten den Opfern des Zyklons helfen. Zumindest einige Familien sollen wieder ein Dach über dem Kopf erhalten. Zudem werden wir lebenswichtige Hilfsgüter und sauberes Trinkwasser bereitstellen und vor Ort sehen, was sonst noch dringend nötig ist. Das ist eine Direkthilfe und jeder Cent wird bei der Bevölkerung ankommen.

Helft uns bitte dabei, ein wenig Leid der Bevölkerung in den Gebieten Macachula/Massinga/Pomene zu mildern! Wir werden über die Verwendung des Geldes vor Ort berichten.

Help for the cyclone victims in Mozambique

On February 24, the devastating cyclone “Freddy” made landfall in Mozambique and severely devastated the Inhambane region. The already dramatic situation after the cyclone was exacerbated by subsequent storm surges, heavy torrential rain, persistent cyclones and floods. And with it the collapse of the mobile phone networks.

The extent of the devastation and the misery of the local people is great. A few days later we received a number of reports from locals who had become homeless and are now faced with an enormous task to make their devastated home region livable again: uprooted trees, demolished roofs, flooded houses/ in some cases completely destroyed houses, vanished schools buildings, flooded fields and paralyzed mobile phone networks. The local population urgently needs help to rebuild their homes and basic foodstuffs.

We ourselves - Tanja and Jesper - lived in this region for a year and know many of the locals who have now become homeless. We will soon be there ourselves and would like to help the victims of the cyclone. At least some families should get a roof over their heads again. We will also provide essential relief supplies and clean drinking water and see what else is urgently needed on site. This is direct aid and every cent will reach the population.

Please help us to alleviate some suffering of the population in the Macachula/Massinga/Pomene areas! We will report on the use of the money on site.
