๐ Help Us Build a Safe and Sustainable Future in South Sudan ๐
We ask you to support us โ a group of 37 LGBTQIA+ refugees living together in South Sudan โ as we work to improve our living conditions and build a life of dignity, safety, and long-term sustainability. Our daily situation remains extremely difficult, but we refuse to give up. We are sharing our fundraiser far and wide so that many shoulders can help carry this burden and many loving hearts can join our mission.
We have upgraded our fundraiser goal to $25,000 in order to become autonomous in the long run. With your help, we hope to cover rent, food, and ARVs for our HIV-positive members, and to invest in sustainable tools such as laptops, sewing machines, and technical skill training for our members. These steps will help us stand on our own feet and build a future based on dignity, self-reliance, and pride.
๐ Calling All Well-Wishers and LGBTQIA+ Family Worldwide ๐ณ๏ธโ๐
We are humbly asking allies, friends, and queer siblings across the world to come out and stand with us. If you can, please support us with monthly or weekly donations to help sustain our basic needs and our long-term growth.
If you cannot donate, you can still make a huge difference: Share our story with your friends, families, and online communities.
Your voice, your love, and your solidarity can reach hearts and change lives. Your support means shelter, health, education, tools, and hope.
Please stand with us โ your love can truly save lives. ๐๐ณ๏ธโ๐
Context
Due to increasing repression against LGBTQIA+ people in the region, many queer refugees have been forced to flee repeatedly, leaving behind their homes, belongings, and any sense of stability. South Sudan remains an extremely challenging and unsafe environment for LGBTQIA+ people, and survival is a daily struggle.
Our group of 37 queer refugees now lives together in a shared location where we support each other, care for our sick, and try to build a safer future despite extremely limited means. Many of us arrived with nothing, are dealing with trauma, and face systematic exclusion from services and opportunities due to our identities.
To sustain our community and work toward long-term autonomy, we are seeking support for:
These are not luxuries โ they are the foundation of survival and the core tools for building a future where we can stand on our own.
Costs
To reach basic stability and take the first steps toward long-term sustainability, we have calculated that we need $25,000. This amount will allow us to cover immediate needs while investing in the tools and skills that will empower us to become self-reliant.
Coordination, Administration & Accountability
Our group coordinates all purchases, distributions, and supportive structures ourselves. We maintain close communication with our comrades in Germany, who raise funds on our behalf and directly transfer all donations to us in South Sudan. We are committed to full transparency and responsible use of every contribution.
About Us
We are a self-organized community of young LGBTQIA+ refugees who have been struggling for safety and dignity for many years โ previously in Kakuma, Kenya, and now in South Sudan. We work collectively, support each other through hardship, and continue to build solidarity and direct action for queer refugees facing violence, exclusion, and homelessness.
