(engl. below)

Kontext:

Was geschah und geschieht:

Deshalb bitten wir, um Ihre/Eure Unterstützung;

-----------------------------------------------------

The reason for the following appeal is the lack of funding to cover the 2021/2022 rent for the international performance art archive DIE SCHWARZE LADE – BLACK KIT.

Cutbacks and the loss of income put the voluntarily run archive in a precarious situation. Certainly, the first crowdfunding by the artist Michael Barrett secured the rent until the middle of this year; a productive time in which structural changes could be initiated. It was also possible to raise initial project funds for the anniversary year 2021. But the financing of a protective roof for the artists' dossiers, performance relics, desks for researchers or the specialized library of the archive is no longer guaranteed from July '21.

For this purpose, we need your help once again!

With many thanks

PS: When donating, please note the preselected option "Freiwillige Unterstützung für betterplace" (Voluntary support for betterplace). These do not benefit the archive. You can set this to 0.00 € under "Beitrag für betterplace ändern" (Change contribution for betterplace). The platform is already supported by 2.7% with every donation.

Context:

What happened and what is happening:

- The collection of information from the field of performance art, action art, the classification and processing; an ongoing process.

- Communicating and publishing as open source continues to be enabled.

- Visits for research are welcome – as far as Corona allows – at any time.

- Collections continue to be inventoried. Currently, the performance library (nearly 10,000 books) and B&W negatives are being reviewed and contextualized, with slides and prints to follow.

- Contextual research continues to be done. Performance networks in particular are being archived and increasingly catalogued.

But what is the NEW!

- The organization will be run by a team from 2021. The volunteer team consists of artists and scientists.

- A comprehensive digitalization will be initiated. This means that international access and presence on various online platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are being established. The ambition is to remain a vibrant, up-to-date, and engaging archive, also in the digital realm.

- In 2021, the archive will be 40 years old and that is worth celebrating. In September 1981, the performance art archive "Black Kit" was conceived and grew out of the conference "The Council". This round birthday is thematically approached and channeled into practical as well as theoretical publications: Discussion rounds, guided tours, cooperations are intended. The first project funds have been raised for this purpose.

What has not yet been achieved

What is still not a genuine practice is the funding of the archive as an open, volunteer-run place of performance and its research. Talks with permanent funding partners have begun but have been forced into shutdown by the pandemic. And any hope for a quick wake up has now finally been taken away from us. So, we have to remain realists and rely on international solidarity among performance artists, theorists, interested people and big-hearted people to keep the archive alive, open and protected by a rooftop.

Therefore, we ask for your support;

via this crowdfunding or as a gift directly to the archive (once, twice or every month)...
