Da unser Freund Carlos vor Kurzem tragisch durch Suizid verstorben ist, möchten wir Spenden für seine Frau und Kinder in Kamerun sammeln, die nun auf unsere Unterstützung angewiesen sind.

Zum Zeitpunkt seines Todes war Carlos akut von Abschiebung bedroht. Soweit wir es nachvollziehen können, erreichte ihn kurz vor seinem Suizid die Information, dass sein illegaler Aufenthaltsstatus und sein aktueller Wohnort der Polizei gemeldet wurden.

Wahrscheinlich haben darüber hinaus viele Faktoren eine Rolle gespielt, über die wir nur mutmaßen können. Klar ist aber auch, dass es viel zu wenig Zugang zu dringend benötigten psychosozialen und -therapeutischen Unterstützungsmöglichkeiten für Menschen wie Carlos gibt, die über keinen legalen Aufenthaltsstatus in Deutschland verfügen.

Wir sind wütend und traurig über die Umstände und das systemische Versagen, in denen unser Freund keine Perspektive mehr gesehen hat. Aus Solidarität mit seiner Familie, die sich nun in einer schwierigen finanziellen Lage befindet, organisieren wir am 15.9.2026 in der B-Lage in Berlin eine Küfa (Küche für alle), bei der wir gegen Spende veganes kamerunisches Essen anbieten. Wir freuen uns sehr über jede Spende, so klein sie auch sein mag. Wer an dem Tag nicht dabei sein kann und trotzdem spenden möchte, ist dazu natürlich auch herzlich dazu eingeladen.

Wir sind ein loser Zusammenschluss von Freund*innen von Carlos, der aus dem Sprachkurs hervorgegangen ist, in dem Carlos zuletzt Deutsch gelernt hat. Der Sprachkurs wurde ehrenamtlich an der Kontakt- und Beratungsstelle für Geflüchtete und Migrant*innen e. V. (KuB) in Berlin unterrichtet, deren Angebote sich explizit auch an Menschen ohne gesicherten Aufenthaltsstatus in Deutschland richten. Since our friend Carlos recently died tragically by suicide, we would like to raise donations for his wife and children in Cameroon, who are now dependent on our support.

At the time of his death, Carlos was facing an imminent threat of deportation. As far as we can tell, shortly before his suicide, he received information that his illegal immigration status and current place of residence had been reported to the police.

It is likely that many other factors also played a role, about which we can only speculate. What is clear, however, is that there is far too little access to urgently needed psychosocial and therapeutic support for people like Carlos who do not have legal residency status in Germany.

We are angry and heartbroken about the circumstances and systemic failures that led our friend to lose all hope for the future. In solidarity with his family, who are now facing financial hardship, we are organizing a “Küfa” (Kitchen for All) on September 15, 2026, at B-Lage in Berlin, where we will serve vegan Cameroonian food in exchange for donations. We greatly appreciate every donation, no matter how small. Anyone who cannot attend that day but would still like to contribute is, of course, very welcome to do so.

The language course was taught on a volunteer basis at the Contact and Counseling Center for Refugees and Migrants e. V.
