Cefotaxim, Ceftriaxon) bevorzugt.

ENGLISH VERSION:

We urgently need € 5,000 to cover Vanessa's antibiotic therapy for the next month.

Vanessa is a cheerful, imaginative, versatile set and costume designer, a friend with whom you can go through thick and thin. An imaginative freelancer, an enterprising Berlin resident...

At least that was the case in summer 2019. Since then, her health has been getting worse and worse: weight loss, aching limbs, palpitations, swollen lymph nodes, nausea, pain in the upper abdomen, throbbing tinnitus, panic attacks, burning pains in the lower abdomen, pronounced insomnia, hand tremors, incipient paralysis in the arms and legs...

As you can probably imagine, she has been on an odyssey through Berlin's doctors’ offices and hospitals. She was also in a psychiatric clinic, where she was advised to accept her discomfort. Vanessa was not the only one who had serious doubts that all these symptoms were psychosomatic. We, her friends, did not experience her as a depressed person either before or at the beginning of the illness.

She was also repeatedly deeply shaken, depressed and desperate because of the pain and her constantly deteriorating state of health. But who wouldn't be? Vanessa didn't let up, she wanted to find out what was wrong with her. She kept asking and asking and fighting.

And then finally, in February 2020, after long months of faulty or no treatment at all, what has been making her life so difficult was proven: Borrelia, Bartonella, Rickettsia, Chlamydia, Brucella, Anaplasma, Echinococcus – a life-threatening, highly advanced mixed infection with various pathogens, probably transmitted by one or more tick bites.

For us, her friends, this was a relief at first. Yes, now it can finally be targeted, now there’s an end in sight, now things are finally moving in the right direction. Vanessa has found trustworthy doctors who have years of experience in treating Lyme disease patients.

Her health status was already very worrying in February, so action had to be taken quickly. Since then, Vanessa has been taking a taxi to the doctor's office twice a day and is given an infusion for 3-4 hours each time.

Antibiosis is tailored exactly to her current needs, and a team of doctors discuss the composition and further treatment steps. This is very fortunate, because otherwise Vanessa would probably not still be alive. Borrelia, Bartonella, Rickettsia and so forth have been able to spread and settle unhindered in tissue, brain, spinal cord and organs for a long time.

And what does the health insurance company say about Lyme disease?

Approximately the following: depending on the stage of the disease, either tablets (e.g. doxycycline) or infusions (e.g. cefotaxime, ceftriaxone) are preferred. The treatment lasts between 2 and 4 weeks. Preventive antibiotics administration after a tick bite without signs of disease is not recommended. In other words: Everything that takes longer does not exist and is not paid for.

Vanessa's basic provision is now funded by social assistance. Everything else – the inevitable taxi rides during the corona pandemic, the costs for the antibiotics – have been borne by Vanessa's mother since then. The antibiosis alone costs €3,000 per month, plus €2,000 for the treatment. In the meantime, her mother has also sounded the alarm, because her reserves have also been used up. She has already paid €60,000 to save her daughter's life.

Premature discontinuation of antibiosis is out of the question, as experience has shown that the infection immediately flares up again to its full strength, which has already been regularly observed during the attempts to reduce the dose of antibiosis.

The doctors are doing their best, and we, her friends are always there for her and all together we encourage Vanessa to persevere. It will be that in a few months’ time she will finally get better. There are enough examples of this!!!

Vanessa has brought an action before the Social Court to recover the money for her treatment from the health insurance fund. This all goes on and on and on...

And during this time, the treatment must continue. But how can this be done without money?

Therefore, we ask you: help us reach the donation goal of €30,000!

We have to get together €5,000 per month. The treatment will probably have to continue in this form until summer 2021, until the multiple bacteria have finally been killed off and Vanessa's health is stable again.
