Kochen in Kinderheim – Ein Blick in die Küche vor Ort
Liebe Unterstützerinnen und Unterstützer,
heute möchte ich euch einen Einblick geben in einen Bereich, der im Alltag der Kinder selbstverständlich ist, für uns aber eine echte Herausforderung wäre: das Kochen in der Küche des Kinderheims.
Gekocht wird dort auf eine Weise, die kaum etwas mit unserer modernen Küche zu tun hat. Die Küche besteht aus einem gemauerten Ofen, der ausschließlich mit Holz befeuert wird. Die Hitze ist schwer zu regulieren, und der Rauch zieht nicht richtig ab. Oft hängt er dicht im gesamten Raum, brennt in den Augen und lässt einen schnell merken, wie anstrengend dieser einfache Alltag wirklich ist.
Der Boden ist staubig, die Wände dunkel vom Ruß, und die Luft ist so schwer, dass man sich instinktiv fragt, wie die Köchinnen dort jeden Tag stundenlang arbeiten können. Es ist kein idyllischer Ort – es ist harte Realität. Und trotzdem wird hier Tag für Tag für viele Kinder gekocht, mit wenig Mitteln und viel Hingabe.
Ich bin sehr gespannt, wie es für mich sein wird, dort selbst zu kochen:
Ohne Komfort, ohne Geräte, ohne Abluft – nur Feuer, Töpfe und viel Improvisation.
Im nächsten Beitrag erzähle ich euch, was ich dort für die Kinder kochen soll – denn sie haben sich etwas ganz Bestimmtes gewünscht, und ich möchte ihren Wunsch unbedingt erfüllen.

Cooking in the children's home – A look inside the kitchen
Dear supporters,
Today I would like to give you an insight into an area that is part of everyday life for the children, but would be a real challenge for us: cooking in the kitchen of the children's home.
Cooking there is done in a way that has little to do with our modern kitchens. The kitchen consists of a brick oven that is fired exclusively with wood. The heat is difficult to regulate, and the smoke does not vent properly. It often hangs thickly throughout the room, stinging the eyes and making you quickly realize how exhausting this simple everyday task really is.
The floor is dusty, the walls are dark with soot, and the air is so heavy that you instinctively wonder how the cooks can work there for hours every day. It is not an idyllic place—it is harsh reality. And yet, day after day, meals are cooked here for many children, with few resources and a lot of dedication.
I am very curious to see what it will be like for me to cook there myself:
without comforts, without appliances, without exhaust fans—just fire, pots, and a lot of improvisation.
In the next post, I will tell you what I am supposed to cook for the children there—because they have requested something very specific, and I definitely want to fulfill their wish.
