Almost in the city center. The distance is about 16 kms between the villages where pupils live and this Byahi Primary school. This long distance to be done by pupils makes their lives more and more difficult. Banks are still working normally as Kenyan troops are patrolling Goma town. So it's still easy to withdraw money from the bank. I am attaching some actual pictures of the Kanyaruchinya primary school hosting and full of internal displaced people and also the Byahi Primary school. Although Goma is currently safe, the war impacts/consequences on people's livelihoods are very serious and worsening. Auch ich "verteile" an verschiedene hilfebedürftige Organisationen und Stellen. Ich möchte wenigstens für etwas Schulmaterial sorgen und werde deshalb meine Weihnachtsgeschenkekasse komplett an Jean Bosco überweisen, damit die Schüler wenigstens Unterrichtsmaterial bekommen und dadurch eventuell eine bessere Motivation, die täglichen 2x16 km zur Schule zurückzulegen. Ich wäre äußerst dankbar, wenn der eine oder andere mich hierbei finanziell unterstützen könnte. Ein aktuelles Foto der derzeitigen Situation habe ich hinzugefügt.

Guten Tag in die Runde der interessierten Unterstützer, hier ein „update“ vom Jean Bosco, der mir Ende Januar folgendes mitgeteilt hat: "Good morning Friederike, This is to confirm that the amount of $950 of donations was received in our account last weekend and handed over to the school. However, as I mentioned before, the community was thinking of putting together a project of "LAYING HENS" in order to take over from donations. Parents could sell chicken eggs from that project and cover themselves the school fees. We are discussing about it for more clarifications and will share it with you as soon as possible. Best regards, Jean Bosco" Durch die überraschende Spende einer Institution, die nicht genannt werden möchte, ist es mir möglich, eine Art "Starthilfe" für das "Hühnerbusiness" zu leisten - 5.000 Euro gehen noch einmal in den Virungapark, wovon ein größerer Teil für das ausstehende Schulgeld bis Schuljahresende verwendet und der Rest in den Aufbau des Legehennengeschäfts gesteckt wird. Sollte noch jemand sich mit dem Gedanken tragen, noch einmal zu spenden, hat man bis Ende März hier auf dieser Plattform noch Gelegenheit. Danach werde ich die Spendenplattform schließen. Am 13.1. schrieb ich an Jean Bosco "Hello, dear Jean, since the last transfer I have got following donations : 250€ on my private account from a friend and two members of the Namibiaforum, 215€ cash from a friend and 260€ via donationplatform from Gertraude and Saara = 725 € . That are roundabout 830$. I begged my bank today to transfer 950€ to your account. The difference is from me as a donation. This is to let you know that I am invited to attend the school meeting tomorrow at 08:00 as I told the school we don't have the $1,590 yet to pay as the school fees. This was based on their payment deadline notification. 10.11.2021 Hello dear Jean, very sorry about the delay with answering…. Well - today I begged two of my best friends for money - they both promised to transfer until latest tomorrow 1500 USD. So I am able to transfer 2.000 USD (the rest is from my account). BUT: In the last month it was not possible to get one single donation and I am very pessimistic, that I can collect much. I myself are not able to support 167 pupils for years. And that is the problem: The people think, that the continually supporting seems to become a never ending story... This is to update you on the meeting of today. We evaluated and also discussed about the support we've been providing and promised that we will pay $2000 in this weekend. But also the important issue was to know how this support can be turned into others alternatives rather than relying on continious donations which will no longer be available. The parents comittee made options/suggestions as alternatives which will be developed as soon as possible BUT might need your final support. They will comeback to me with the alternative proposal by early next week and will surely share that with you. The most important thing is that we all agree this support cannot continue forever... Therefore, I am waiting for you to do the bank transfer today if possible for the $2000 donations so that we can hand this payment to the school by this weekend or by earliest next week. Good morning Friederike, Thank you for your questions and the bank confirmation. The amount of $29 per pupil is for covering note books, uniforms, pens, pencils etc for being used during this school year 2021-2022. This represented $29/pupils multiply by 159 pupils giving a total of $4,611. These schools tools were needed before the October 4, 2021 the official resuming date of the class here in DR Congo. This was a request from parents to provide also these school tools. But since it was not possible before that date, we had a meeting on Friday October 1st, 2021 with the parents to explain that we will not be able to provide these school tools as there were no funds to cover this. The parents of the pupils agreed and understood so they are now doing their best to cover this cost of these school tools. However, they beg and beg again that we continue paying the school fees as we did last year. This means the $1,500 you have just sent will be used for the beginning of school fees payment and not for school tools anymore. Please let me know if this is clear now or not. Ich hoffe sehr, daß es trotz der unermeßlich viel unterstützenswerten Projekte auch ein paar Menschen gibt, die diese Schule weiter unterstützen - vor allem, weil fast gleich viele Jungen und Mädchen davon profitieren. "Dear all, First of all we would like to thank you for all your support during the 2020-2021 school year in favor of the Kanyaruchinya pupils. The community together with their parents remain so grateful to all your support during this past school year which was very difficult. The difficult time during this past school year was worsened by the Nyiragongo volcano eruption of May 22nd, 2021. Nevethless, out of the 167 kids supported, 110 were able to pass to next classes, 49 have failed and are eligigle to repeat the same classes, 8 have abandoned the school as they became homeless after the May 22nd, 2021 Nyiragongo volcano eruption. For now urgently, let's focus on the school tools for the 159 pupils ready to go back to school on this coming October 4th, 2021 for the new 2021-2022 school year. I am attaching the list of needed school tools for each kid representing $29 per kid. This represents a total amount of $4,611 needed from now and October 2nd, 2021.
