Interim Report - Zwischenbericht
georg schollbach · 25.02.2022____deutsch unten_____Dear people, our time in Bosnia & Herzegovina is coming to an end. We have now arrived in Velika Kladuša, in the very north on the border with Croatia. The last days in Sarajevo were filled with interviews with exciting people who decided to apply for asylum in Sarajevo in order to stay in Bosnia. On the way we delivered the 16 donated sleeping bags to the local NGO Compass in Sarajevo, which is there for PoM (people on the move) from Monday to Friday and offers a free food, laundry and shower service. From Sarajevo, our journey continued to Bihać, where we stayed with the family of a friend. We interviewed volunteers who provide wood and food to PoM in squats and visited Compass' partner organization which, like Sarajevo, supports PoMs with clothing, food and firewood and provides 5 hot showers. We interviewed volunteers who provide wood and food to PoM in squats and visited Compass' partner organization which, like Sarajevo, supports PoMs with clothing, food and firewood and provides 5 hot showers. There we interviewed the founder Ines and got an insight into her tireless commitment. In the afternoon we visited Daka, who lives in the direct neighborhood of the rebuilt Camp Lipa.In Velika Kladuša we accompanied a group collecting garbage from an abandoned squat and visited a family from Afghanistan in an empty house who are currently trying to cross the border to Croatia every day and have already been pushed back over 8 times, although they have the right to asylum. Push-backs are state measures in which fleeing and migrating people - mostly immediately after crossing the border - are pushed back without the possibility to apply for asylum or to have their legality reviewed by the courts. Today we visited two people from the local population who support PoM who are pushed back with shelter, food and wound care in the immediate vicinity of the border. There we distributed the collected sleeping mats, tents and clothing donations. Tomorrow we will visit more squats, get to know a local project that provides PoM with food and collect interviews. After beautiful spring days, it has started snowing again. During our intensive time here we follow the news, are shocked about what is happening and hear how the first refugees from Ukraine arrive in Germany and how people organize themselves. At the same time, some people here have been stuck at the border for several years and try up to 40 times the so-called "game" - crossing the border into the European Union for a better future. In which world do we live, we ask ourselves? We are currently waiting for the campaign to reach the targeted 5,000 € to then distribute the funds appropriately to the initiatives and projects. We will write you another update. Thank you for your support! More → -
Arrival in Bosnia and Herzegovina
georg schollbach · 17.02.2022Deutsche Version darunter! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello out there! We arrived safely in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Last Saturday we crossed the external EU border and fortunately we managed to cross the border with our van fully loaded with donations. Usually an official permition is needed to transpot donations to BIH but luckaly we had a well prepared story and a local language speaking person:) The first stop was in the small border town Velika Kladuša. There we visited a group that provides POM (People on move) with food, clothing, sleeping bags, smart phones and other essentials. They introduced us to the local support structures and also had some ideas and contacts for our research project. In the evening we continued to Bihać, the largest city in the border region. There we checked in with another active group, unloaded a part of the donations and stayed overnight. In the morning we presented our concerns in the daily plenum and also got insights to the work of this collective. Afterwards, in bright sunshine, we started our five-hour drive through the beautiful mountain landscape to Sarajevo. Arriving in the evening, we were warmly welcomed by Lamia in her apartment. The days in Sarajevo passed very quickly and were filled with travel preparations for the time in the border region and contacting projects for POM (People on move) in Sarajevo. We also sorted the donations that reached us in Germany and we are so happy about those great things, now we can start to provide them to people who need them urgently! Thanks to you!!! On Tuesday, Caro arrived in Sarajevo and out temporary team completed. Today we have our first interviews with people from a local organization and people who decided to stay and settle down in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We would love to achieve the goals of our campaign by the end of the week, so that we have enough time to deal with a sensible distribution of the donations. So we are still looking forward to your support and sharing of the campaign, you are welcome to exceed the target amount by far. Many thanks and greetings from Sarajevo. People on move) in Sarajevo. More → -
We are leaving soon
georg schollbach · 07.02.2022Dear people, this Friday we will start our journey to the European border in Bihać, Bosnia. There we will hand over the donations to the NGOs and familiarize ourselves with the situation on the spot. We are glad to have reached so many people with the campaign so far - thank you for all the support. Furthermore we would like to announce that our team has increased by one person: Carolin Saage is a photographer in Berlin and will meet our group in Sarajevo in mid-February to accompany us to the border region afterwards. Her photographic humanitarian work will hopefully give the issue greater media visibility. Our campaign is currently about 40% short and together with your support we are looking forward to fill the pot before our departure. Please share the campaign and inform your friends, families and acquaintances.
